In October 2023, the average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $6,055 per ton, falling by -2.4% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,203 per ton, and then fell modestly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($8,244 per ton), while the price for Mozambique ($3,160 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
