The average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped stood at $4,397 per ton in June 2022, which is down by -13.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2021 an increase of 106% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $7,973 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to June 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($6,158 per ton), while the price for the United States ($1,097 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2021 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
