In September 2023, the average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $7,154 per ton, with an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous month. The import price peaked in September 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($10,939 per ton), while the price for Bangladesh ($4,344 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 110% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $7,929 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($8,467 per ton), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped into the Philippines rose notably to 42K tons in 2022, picking up by 12% on 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
