In 2022, the average import price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $5,208 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the import price showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 5.4%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,444 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from the Philippines ($5,208 per ton) and India ($5,208 per ton), while the price for Italy ($5,208 per ton) and France ($5,208 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped amounted to $4,869 per ton, reducing by -1.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 10%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $6,109 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($4,869 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($4,869 per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($4,869 per ton) and China ($4,869 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jordan (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Tobacco; Partly or Wholly Stemmed or Stripped in Vietnam
For the fourth consecutive year, Vietnam recorded growth in supplies from abroad of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped, which increased by 32% to 54K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +84.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, imports of tobacco; partly or wholly stemmed or stripped soared to $283M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.7% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
