The average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price stood at $3,747 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,104 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($5,848 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($769 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 23%. The import price peaked at $5,557 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($6,070 per ton), while the price for India ($1,271 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
