Price for Tobacco, Unmanufactured; Tobacco Refuse in Bulgaria (FOB) - 2023

The average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price stood at $6,239 per ton in June 2023, surging by 5.2% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a temperate expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse export price decreased by -4.7% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 32% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $6,546 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($8,387 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($4,798 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tobacco, unmanufactured; tobacco refuse import price stood at $4,007 per ton in 2022, rising by 9.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 9.6%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $5,198 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($5,857 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($2,221 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+8.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
