The average import price for tomatoes; prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid stood at $1,515 per ton in January 2024, picking up by 5.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average import price increased by 17% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,627 per ton. From July 2023 to January 2024, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($2,234 per ton), while the price for Australia ($1,151 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 14%. The export price peaked at $1,525 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($5,662 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($846 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+9.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
