Price for Truck and Bus Tyre in South Africa (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average truck and bus tyre import price amounted to $79.6 per unit, shrinking by -16.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 20% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $104 per unit in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($281 per unit), while the price for Thailand ($64.0 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+6.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average truck and bus tyre export price stood at $135 per unit in July 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 125% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $206 per unit in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($361 per unit), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($12.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Truck and Bus Tyre in South Africa
Truck and bus tyre imports into South Africa dropped to 2.3M units in 2022, falling by -10.9% on 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed strong growth.
