Price for Tungsten (Wolfram); Waste and Scrap in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average export price for tungsten (wolfram); waste and scraps amounted to $38,412 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 10% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $41,371 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($39,700 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($35,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average import price for tungsten (wolfram); waste and scraps amounted to $13,535 per ton, dropping by -8.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 29%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $22,775 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($24,645 per ton), while the price for the United States ($3,478 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the amount of tungsten (wolfram); waste and scraps exported from China contracted rapidly to 467 tons, declining by -17.7% compared with 2021. Overall, exports saw a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 568 tons, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
