Price for Vegetables; Seed Potatoes, Fresh or Chilled in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average export price for vegetables; seed potatoes, fresh or chilleds amounted to $775 per ton, rising by 33% against the previous month. Over the last nine months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($856 per ton), while the average price for exports to Kuwait ($798 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Syrian Arab Republic (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2023, the average import price for vegetables; seed potatoes, fresh or chilleds amounted to $500 per ton, reducing by -1.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 43% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $646 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($577 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($488 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Exports of Vegetables; Seed Potatoes, Fresh or Chilled in the Netherlands

In 2022, overseas shipments of vegetables; seed potatoes, fresh or chilleds were finally on the rise to reach 857K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible slump.

In value terms, exports of vegetables; seed potatoes, fresh or chilleds expanded markedly to $546M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease.

In value terms, imports of vegetables; seed potatoes, fresh or chilleds shrank rapidly to $23M in 2022. Overall, imports faced a dramatic shrinkage. The smallest decline of -15.7% was in 2020.
