The average import price for waste (including noils, yarn waste and garnetted stock), of man-made fibreses stood at $857 per ton in January 2024, falling by -22% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2023 when the average import price increased by 53% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,218 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($1,427 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($153 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for waste (including noils, yarn waste and garnetted stock), of man-made fibreses stood at $739 per ton in January 2024, with a decrease of -6.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 7.1% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,079 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to January 2024, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($849 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($307 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+7.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 43%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 14K tons, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of waste (including noils, yarn waste and garnetted stock), of man-made fibreses skyrocketed to $16M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +94.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
