Price for Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in China (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $465 per ton in December 2023, jumping by 32% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 60% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,737 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($899 per ton), while the average price for exports to Oman ($178 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $580 per ton in 2020, growing by 2.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $768 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Hong Kong SAR.
From 2012 to 2020, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Korea amounted to +2.7% per year.
Exports of Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in China
In 2022, the amount of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses exported from China surged to 58K tons, picking up by 20% against the previous year's figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, exports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses reduced slightly to $129M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.8% over the last three-year period.
