The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $363 per ton in October 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 21% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $839 per ton. From January 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($965 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($129 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Finland (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $410 per ton in October 2023, growing by 23% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 99% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $773 per ton. From July 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($934 per ton), while the price for Finland ($131 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Estonia

For the fourth consecutive year, Estonia recorded growth in overseas shipments of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses, which increased by 5.6% to 20K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, exports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses skyrocketed to $13M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
