Price for Waste, Parings and Scrap, of Plastics in Panama (FOB) - 2023

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $268 per ton in September 2023, which is down by -3.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 112% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $722 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($377 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($50.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From November 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+19.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $434 per ton in 2022, growing by 47% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction. The import price peaked at $1,760 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Free Zones ($1,831 per ton), while the price for Nicaragua ($183 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Free Zones (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses decreased by -33.4% to 4.2K tons in 2022.
