In 2022, the average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses amounted to $317 per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 41%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $614 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($711 per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($138 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $642 per ton in 2022, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight descent. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $713 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($915 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($360 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+12.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses into Serbia rose markedly to 23K tons in 2022, increasing by 5.1% on 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -30.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 33K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses surged to $7.3M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

For the third year in a row, Serbia recorded decline in overseas shipments of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses, which decreased by -35% to 3K tons in 2022. Overall, exports saw a precipitous shrinkage. The smallest decline of -22% was in 2020.

In value terms, exports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses dropped significantly to $1.9M in 2022. In general, exports saw a drastic downturn. The smallest decline of -5% was in 2020.
