The average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $813 per ton in November 2023, increasing by 5.6% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $833 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to November 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($895 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($488 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses amounted to $264 per ton, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $423 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($411 per ton), while the price for South Korea ($178 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+23.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, approx. 69K tons of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses were exported from Thailand; dropping by -1.9% on 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a sharp contraction.

In 2022, imports of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses into Thailand expanded markedly to 179K tons, surging by 13% on 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
