The average import price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses stood at $278 per ton in December 2023, shrinking by -7.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.8% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $375 per ton. From March 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($456 per ton), while the price for Israel ($161 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In December 2023, the average export price for waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses amounted to $726 per ton, picking up by 12% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 43% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,152 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($1,415 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($142 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, approx. 688K tons of waste, parings and scrap, of plasticses were imported into Turkey; standing approx. at 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 47%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 745K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of failed to regain momentum.
