In 2022, the average import price for white sugar (containing >= 99,5% sucrose) and chemically pure sucrose amounted to $511 per ton, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $709 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($565 per ton) and Brazil ($526 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($424 per ton) and the Netherlands ($466 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Overall, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for white sugar (containing >= 99,5% sucrose) and chemically pure sucrose decreased by -30.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 40% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,966 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Gabon ($1,386 per ton), while the average price for exports to Congo stood at $1,335 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Chad (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
