Price for Winding Wire of Copper in Japan (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average winding wire of copper import price amounted to $12,126 per ton, approximately equating the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 4.1% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $13,210 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were China ($14,195 per ton) and Thailand ($11,552 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($10,473 per ton) and South Korea ($10,566 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average winding wire of copper export price stood at $19,138 per ton in July 2023, falling by -4.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.9% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $21,127 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($30,874 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($12,125 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Winding Wire of Copper in Japan

For the fourth year in a row, Japan recorded growth in overseas purchases of winding wire of coppers, which increased by 15% to 43K tons in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
