Price for Wine of Fresh Grapes in Romania (CIF) - 2023
The average wine of fresh grapes import price stood at $2.0 per litre in June 2023, increasing by 7.2% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, wine of fresh grapes import price increased by +55.4% against March 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 29% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2.0 per litre in November 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($7.7 per litre), while the price for Ukraine ($432 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average wine of fresh grapes export price amounted to $2.2 per litre, with a decrease of -5.8% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2.4 per litre in May 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Spain ($2.7 per litre), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($946 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Wine of Fresh Grapes in Romania
In 2022, purchases abroad of wine of fresh grapes (except sparkling wine) decreased by -3.7% to 46M litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 29%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 48M litres, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, wine of fresh grapes imports expanded sharply to $79M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
