Price for Wine; Still, in Containers Holding More than 2 Litres in Switzerland (CIF) - 2024

The average import price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses stood at $1.4 per litre in January 2024, dropping by -23.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 38% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2.0 per litre in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to January 2024, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2024, the country with the highest price was Italy ($2.0 per litre), while the price for Spain ($655 per thousand litres) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $76 per litre in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($189 per litre), while the average price for exports to Germany ($5.2 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses were finally on the rise to reach 57M litres for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight decrease. Imports peaked at 59M litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, imports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses contracted slightly to $98M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 7.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $102M, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 125% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum at 164K litres in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, exports of wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses declined dramatically to $2.4M in 2022. In general, exports saw a slight curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 65% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $3.5M, and then declined significantly in the following year.
