In August 2023, the average import price for wood charcoal (including shell or nut charcoal), whether or not agglomerated amounted to $665 per ton, which is down by -13.6% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $769 per ton in July 2023, and then dropped in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Ukraine ($661 per ton) and Cuba ($629 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($447 per ton) and Nigeria ($452 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, export price for wood charcoal (including shell or nut charcoal), whether or not agglomerated decreased by -11.7% against July 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 78% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,297 per ton in July 2023, and then declined in the following month.
