The average import price for wood stood at $5.4 per cubic meter in December 2021, reducing by -12.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2021 when the average import price increased by 7.7% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $7.7 per cubic meter in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to December 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($9.4 per cubic meter), while the price for Switzerland ($2.8 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average export price for wood amounted to $8.3 per cubic meter, growing by 7.5% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2021 an increase of 24% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $9.7 per cubic meter. From April 2021 to December 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($12.7 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($5.6 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the amount of wood imported into Austria totaled 8.8M cubic meters, remaining stable against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 8.8M cubic meters; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, imports of wood declined to $54M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 1.9%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $54M, leveling off in the following year.
