The average import price for wood stood at $2.2 per cubic meter in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3.3 per cubic meter in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($2.2 per cubic meter), while the price for Portugal ($2.2 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average export price for wood stood at $24 per cubic meter in 2022, picking up by 36% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 85%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $42 per cubic meter in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Marshall Islands ($57 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Greece ($20 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2018 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+91.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Wood; for Fuel, Sawdust and Wood Waste and Scrap, Not Agglomerated in Brazil

In 2022, supplies from abroad of wood decreased by -21% to 74K cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 94K cubic meters, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, imports of wood dropped markedly to $167K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +33.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $208K, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of wood decreased by -40.7% to 280 cubic meters, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 176% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 538 cubic meters. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, exports of wood contracted significantly to $6.8K in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 62%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $8.4K, and then declined markedly in the following year.
