In December 2021, the average export price for wood amounted to $14.7 per cubic meter, growing by 27% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The export price peaked at $15.4 per cubic meter in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($41.2 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($7.8 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+15.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average import price for wood amounted to $7.7 per cubic meter, rising by 4.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2021 an increase of 35% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $9.7 per cubic meter. From June 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($27.3 per cubic meter), while the price for Italy ($1.2 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+41.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exports of Wood; for Fuel, Sawdust and Wood Waste and Scrap, Not Agglomerated in Germany
In 2022, approx. 1.3M cubic meters of wood were exported from Germany; declining by -83.8% on the year before. Overall, exports faced a precipitous decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 8.3M cubic meters, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of wood dropped to $104M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $110M, and then fell in the following year.
