The average import price for wood stood at $38 per cubic meter in 2022, waning by -4.9% against the previous year. Over the last five-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +6.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 37%. The import price peaked at $40 per cubic meter in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($60 per cubic meter), while the price for Romania ($6.5 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for wood stood at $19 per cubic meter in 2022, rising by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 82%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $23 per cubic meter. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($19 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Italy amounted to $19 per cubic meter.
From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to North Macedonia (+23.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of wood decreased by -5.6% to 87K cubic meters in 2022. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the peak figure at 92K cubic meters in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, imports of wood reduced to $3.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 33% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the maximum at $3.7M in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
