In December 2021, the average import price for wood amounted to $10.0 per cubic meter, surging by 5.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2021 when the average import price increased by 70% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $19.8 per cubic meter in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to December 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($118 per cubic meter), while the price for Austria ($7.4 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+14.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for wood amounted to $8.9 per cubic meter, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price saw a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $9.6 per cubic meter in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($60 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Austria ($8.1 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the amount of wood imported into Hungary fell notably to 216K cubic meters, shrinking by -42.2% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 326% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 374K cubic meters, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, imports of wood shrank remarkably to $2.7M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 263% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.2M, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In 2022, the amount of wood exported from Hungary declined markedly to 89K cubic meters, falling by -38.1% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 264% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 143K cubic meters, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, exports of wood reduced notably to $793K in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 319% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.3M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
