In December 2021, the average import price for wood amounted to $7.0 per cubic meter, waning by -8.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2021 an increase of 46% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $9.4 per cubic meter. From June 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($10.8 per cubic meter), while the price for Italy ($849 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average export price for wood amounted to $10.6 per cubic meter, jumping by 30% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated noticeable growth from January 2021 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0% over the last eleven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, export price for wood increased by +30.5% against November 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2021 an increase of 105% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $13.3 per cubic meter in June 2021; however, from July 2021 to December 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($107 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($7.2 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (+30.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of wood, when their volume decreased by -9.1% to 990K cubic meters. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +37.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 1.1M cubic meters, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, imports of wood fell sharply to $6.2M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $7.6M, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

Exports of Wood; for Fuel, Sawdust and Wood Waste and Scrap, Not Agglomerated in Slovakia

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in shipments abroad of wood, when their volume increased by 24% to 178K cubic meters. In general, exports, however, showed a sharp descent. The exports peaked at 650K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of wood expanded remarkably to $1.5M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp downturn. The exports peaked at $4.3M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
