In November 2021, the average import price for wood amounted to $52.6 per cubic meter, growing by 36% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2021 an increase of 134% month-to-month. The import price peaked in November 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2021, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($118 per cubic meter), while the price for Germany ($38.4 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to November 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+17.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for wood amounted to $19 per cubic meter, falling by -3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 60%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $20 per cubic meter in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($23 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($13 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2017 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+27.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of wood into the UK expanded to 399K cubic meters in 2022, increasing by 1.6% against 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 104%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, imports of wood reduced rapidly to $7.2M in 2022. In general, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 269% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $11M, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a precipitous setback. In value terms, exports of wood soared to $1.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a sharp setback. The exports peaked at $5.5M in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
