Price for Wood; Posts and Beams in France (CIF) - 2021
The average wood; posts and beams import price stood at $2,147 per ton in November 2021, growing by 12% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a mild increase from November 2020 to November 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on November 2021 figures, wood; posts and beams import price increased by +12.0% against October 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2021 when the average import price increased by 50% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $3,011 per ton in August 2021; however, from September 2021 to November 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,163 per ton), while the price for Portugal ($155 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From November 2020 to November 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average wood; posts and beams export price stood at $1,012 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -13.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 43%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,169 per ton, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($2,740 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($511 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mauritania (+10.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Wood; Posts and Beams in France
In 2022, supplies from abroad of wood; posts and beamses decreased by -13.3% to 22K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 37%.
In value terms, wood; posts and beams imports dropped dramatically to $41M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $51M, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
