In September 2023, the average import price for wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), shorn amounted to $2,326 per ton, surging by 12% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 an increase of 89% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,381 per ton. From June 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($2,526 per ton), while the price for Germany totaled $2,318 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed noticeable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 73%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $2,814 per ton in 2021, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,863 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain amounted to $453 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia (+71.0%).
