The average import price for wool; (not carded or combed), degreased, (not carbonised), shorn stood at $8,411 per ton in December 2023, jumping by 57% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 81% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in December 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($9,490 per ton), while the price for the UK amounted to $3,170 per ton.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+10.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $4,087 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Mexico ($3,728 per ton) and the UK ($3,672 per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($3,671 per ton) and Belgium ($3,671 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
