The average import price for yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale stood at $29,566 per ton in December 2023, increasing by 10% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 an increase of 17% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $30,364 per ton. From August 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the UK ($33,774 per ton) and Spain ($32,156 per ton), while the price for Italy ($28,812 per ton) and Switzerland ($29,850 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for yarn of combed wool, not put up for retail sale amounted to $19,195 per ton, declining by -6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 14%. The export price peaked at $20,424 per ton in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($34,731 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($11,663 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
