Price for Yarn; of Flax, Single in Belgium (CIF) - 2022

The average yarn; of flax, single import price stood at $10,497 per ton in 2022, picking up by 33% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, yarn; of flax, single import price increased by +30.9% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($11,817 per ton), while the price for Egypt ($4,398 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+10.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average yarn; of flax, single export price stood at $15,887 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 6.2% against the previous month. Over the period from July 2022 to July 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 20% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $15,973 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Spain ($17,815 per ton) and Austria ($16,277 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($15,042 per ton) and Portugal ($15,173 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Yarn; of Flax, Single in Belgium

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of yarn; of flax, singles decreased by -14.2% to 3K tons in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 38%.

In value terms, yarn; of flax, single imports rose sharply to $31M in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 91% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 809 tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, yarn; of flax, single exports contracted markedly to $7M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 206%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $9.1M, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
