Price for Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Portugal (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average yoghurt and fermented milk import price amounted to $1,826 per ton, declining by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 9.1% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,884 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($2,959 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,741 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average yoghurt and fermented milk export price amounted to $1,884 per ton, rising by 2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 7.8% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,946 per ton in April 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Guinea-Bissau ($2,941 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($1,704 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guinea-Bissau (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Yoghurt and Fermented Milk in Portugal
In 2022, purchases abroad of yoghurt and fermented milk increased by 0.7% to 134K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, yoghurt and fermented milk imports rose slightly to $199M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
