Price for Zinc; Dust, Powders and Flakes in Germany (FOB) - 2022

The average export price for zinc; dust, powders and flakeses stood at $2,942 per ton in 2021, with an increase of 6.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $3,961 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($4,490 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,244 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for zinc; dust, powders and flakeses stood at $4,534 per ton in July 2023, rising by 75% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,871 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($4,872 per ton), while the price for Iran ($3,334 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Exports of Zinc; Dust, Powders and Flakes in Germany

In 2022, overseas shipments of zinc; dust, powders and flakeses decreased by -2.8% to 20K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34%.

In value terms, zinc; dust, powders and flakes exports totaled $67M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 10% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
