Price for Zinc; Plates, Sheets, Strip and Foil in China (CIF) - 2022

The average import price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $5,647 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 9.6% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were Spain ($6,201 per ton) and the Netherlands ($6,032 per ton), while the price for the United States ($4,897 per ton) and Peru ($5,256 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $5,787 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 34% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, export price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils increased by +46.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 62%. The export price peaked at $6,518 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Samoa ($17,432 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,958 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Samoa (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $22M, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -18.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 79%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 887 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, exports of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils skyrocketed to $4.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
