Price for Zinc; Plates, Sheets, Strip and Foil in Spain (FOB) - 2023
The average export price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils stood at $4,272 per ton in November 2023, surging by 3.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 when the average export price increased by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $4,893 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to November 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($5,803 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($4,442 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (-0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In November 2023, the average import price for zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils amounted to $4,511 per ton, growing by 3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2023 an increase of 90% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7,550 per ton. From September 2023 to November 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In November 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($126K per ton), while the price for the UK totaled $95,874 per ton.
From December 2022 to November 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+100.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Exports of Zinc; Plates, Sheets, Strip and Foil in Spain
In 2022, shipments abroad of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils decreased by -16.5% to 25K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 25%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 29K tons, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, exports of zinc; plates, sheets, strip and foils reached $120M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
