The average import price for zinc; unwrought, (not alloyed), containing by weight 99.99% or more of zincs stood at $3,154 per ton in December 2023, almost unchanged from the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 5.5% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $3,623 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($3,976 per ton) and the Netherlands ($3,376 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($2,766 per ton) and Belgium ($3,036 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 12% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,940 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In December 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Cyprus ($3,689 per ton) and Romania ($3,320 per ton), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($3,099 per ton) and the Czech Republic ($3,148 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (-0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
