Barley Production in Switzerland - 2022
In 2022, approx. 182K tons of barley were produced in Switzerland; with an increase of 6.5% compared with 2021. Overall, production, however, saw a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at 207K tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure. Barley output in Switzerland indicated a pronounced reduction, which was largely conditioned by a noticeable shrinkage of the harvested area and a perceptible contraction in yield figures.
In value terms, barley production shrank slightly to $136M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 5.7% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $140M. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
Barley Harvested Area in Switzerland - 2022
The barley harvested area in Switzerland declined to 28K ha in 2022, flattening at 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the harvested area recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the harvested area increased by 3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to barley production reached the maximum at 28K ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.
Barley Yield in Switzerland - 2022
In 2022, the average barley yield in Switzerland reached 6.4 tons per ha, surging by 7.1% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a noticeable setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 7.9%. Over the period under review, the average barley yield attained the peak level at 7.3 tons per ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure.
