Cherry and Sour Cherry Production in Peru - 2022
In 2022, approx. 1.5K tons of cherries and sour cherries were produced in Peru; shrinking by -1.8% on the previous year. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 15%. As a result, production reached the peak volume of 1.6K tons. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum. Cherry and sour cherry output in Peru indicated a measured increase, which was largely conditioned by a pronounced increase of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.
In value terms, cherry and sour cherry production declined slightly to $8M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a prominent increase. In 2022, approx. 251 ha of cherries and sour cherries were harvested in Peru; which is down by -1.6% on the year before. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 5.6%. The cherry and sour cherry harvested area peaked at 255 ha in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In 2022, the average yield of cherries and sour cherries in Peru dropped modestly to 5.8 tons per ha, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the yield increased by 11% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 6.7 tons per ha. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the average cherry and sour cherry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure.
