Dry Bean Production in Guatemala - 2022
In 2022, production of beans (dry) increased by 6% to 153K tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production reached the peak volume at 258K tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure. Dry bean output in Guatemala indicated a deep downturn, which was largely conditioned by a drastic downturn of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.
In value terms, dry bean production amounted to $141M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 5.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $351M in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The dry bean harvested area in Guatemala expanded markedly to 150K ha in 2022, surging by 5.2% compared with 2021. In general, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the harvested area increased by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to dry bean production attained the peak figure at 258K ha in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

The average yield of beans (dry) in Guatemala amounted to 1 tons per ha in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the year before. Overall, the yield saw a relatively flat trend pattern.
