In 2022, production of duck and goose meat decreased by -47.3% to 4.4K tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 45%. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 8.3K tons, and then declined sharply in the following year. Duck and goose meat output in Turkey indicated a resilient expansion, which was largely conditioned by a buoyant expansion of the producing animals number and mild growth in yield figures.
In value terms, duck and goose meat production fell rapidly to $7.1M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a buoyant increase from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +64.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 48% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $8.4M, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In 2022, number of animals slaughtered for duck and goose meat production in Turkey shrank to 1.9M heads, declining by -9.1% on 2021 figures. This number increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2017 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, this number reached the peak level at 2.1M heads in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Duck and Goose Meat Yield in Turkey - 2022
The average yield of duck and goose meat in Turkey declined sharply to 2.3 kg per head in 2022, which is down by -42% on 2021 figures. Overall, the yield, however, recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the yield increased by 38%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 3.9 kg per head, and then fell rapidly in the following year.
