Eggplant Production in Peru - 2022
In 2022, production of eggplants (aubergines) decreased by -41.8% to 286 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, the total production indicated a modest increase from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 82%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at 491 tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year. Eggplant output in Peru indicated modest growth, which was largely conditioned by a modest increase of the harvested area and a slight slump in yield figures.
In value terms, eggplant production totaled $1.4M in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -21.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 73%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $1.7M. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.
Eggplant Harvested Area in Peru - 2022
In 2022, the eggplant harvested area in Peru declined markedly to 24 ha, waning by -44.2% on 2021 figures. Overall, the harvested area, however, enjoyed a notable expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 90%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to eggplant production attained the peak figure at 43 ha in 2021, and then dropped notably in the following year.
Eggplant Yield in Peru - 2022
In 2022, the average yield of eggplants (aubergines) in Peru totaled 12 tons per ha, picking up by 4.4% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a mild curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.6%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 13 tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the average eggplant yield remained at a lower figure.
