Garlic Production in Serbia - 2022
In 2022, production of garlic decreased by -10.1% to 3.4K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, production recorded a abrupt slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at 5K tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure. Garlic output in Serbia indicated a abrupt shrinkage, which was largely conditioned by a abrupt descent of the harvested area and a slight downturn in yield figures.
In value terms, garlic production rose slightly to $4.9M in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a noticeable expansion from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -1.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 115%. Garlic production peaked at $5M in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of garlic production in Serbia totaled 1.3K ha, almost unchanged from the previous year's figure. Overall, the harvested area, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to garlic production reached the peak figure at 1.8K ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.
Garlic Yield in Serbia - 2022
The average yield of garlic in Serbia contracted to 2.6 tons per ha in 2022, declining by -11.2% against the previous year. Overall, the yield recorded a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of 2.9 tons per ha, and then reduced in the following year.
