Leek Production in Italy - 2022
After five years of growth, production of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables decreased by -8.3% to 14K tons in 2022. In general, the total production indicated a buoyant expansion from 2017 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 33%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak volume at 15K tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year. Leek output in Italy indicated resilient growth, which was largely conditioned by a strong expansion of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.
In value terms, leek production reached $26M in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a remarkable increase from 2017 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.0% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -0.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the production volume increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $26M in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

The leek harvested area in Italy shrank to 560 ha in 2022, waning by -6.7% on 2021 figures. Over the period under review, the total harvested area indicated a resilient expansion from 2017 to 2022: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last five-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the harvested area increased by 32%. The leek harvested area peaked at 600 ha in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Leek Yield in Italy - 2022
The average yield of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables in Italy shrank modestly to 25 tons per ha in 2022, falling by -1.8% on the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the yield increased by 1.6% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of 25 tons per ha, and then fell slightly in the following year.
