In 2022, production of onions (dry) increased by 7.8% to 238K tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 8.4%. Onion production peaked at 242K tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum. Onion output in Belarus indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a pronounced curtailment in yield figures.
In value terms, onion production fell to $48M in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $55M, and then reduced in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 13%. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of 12K ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the onion harvested area remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, the average yield of onions (dry) in Belarus was estimated at 21 tons per ha, surging by 3.1% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, the yield, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the yield increased by 7.4% against the previous year. The onion yield peaked at 24 tons per ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum.
