In 2022, the amount of onions (dry) produced in Japan expanded remarkably to 1.2M tons, growing by 11% against the previous year's figure. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the onion harvested area failed to regain momentum.

The average yield of onions (dry) in Japan expanded remarkably to 48 tons per ha in 2022, surging by 12% on the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the yield increased by 17%. Over the period under review, the average onion yield reached the peak level at 53 tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure.
