In 2022, approx. 651K tons of onions (dry) were produced in Poland; increasing by 5.3% against 2021 figures. Overall, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 668K tons. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure. Onion output in Poland indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a measured expansion in yield figures.
In value terms, onion production expanded rapidly to $355M in 2022 estimated in export price. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -11.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 35%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $402M. From 2020 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

The onion harvested area in Poland fell slightly to 23K ha in 2022, which is down by -2.6% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area showed a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 0.9%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to onion production attained the maximum at 26K ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area remained at a lower figure.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the yield increased by 35%. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 29 tons per ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the average onion yield failed to regain momentum.
