Onion Production in Serbia - 2022

After three years of growth, production of onions (dry) decreased by -6.1% to 35K tons in 2022. The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13%. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 37K tons, and then contracted in the following year. Onion output in Serbia indicated mild growth, which was largely conditioned by slight growth of the harvested area and a mild expansion in yield figures.

In value terms, onion production dropped to $8.2M in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the production volume increased by 28%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $9.2M, and then fell in the following year.

Onion Harvested Area in Serbia - 2022

The onion harvested area in Serbia reduced slightly to 4.1K ha in 2022, therefore, remained relatively stable against 2021. Overall, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the harvested area increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to onion production attained the peak figure at 4.2K ha in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Onion Yield in Serbia - 2022

The average yield of onions (dry) in Serbia reduced to 8.5 tons per ha in 2022, with a decrease of -4.8% on the previous year. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the yield increased by 14%. The onion yield peaked at 8.9 tons per ha in 2021, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
